JEWELL – A battle of the Hawks went in favor of the hosts this season, as South Hamilton avenged an 11-8 loss in Granger last year with a 28-14 triumph Friday.

The hosts (1-2) raced to a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play, with W-G (2-1) cutting their deficit at the break to 21-6 when Reese Jamison found Bryce Achenbach on a 73-yard touchdown pass.

Turnovers plagued the visitors throughout the contest, as three interceptions and then a lost fumble in the third quarter helped set up South Hamilton scores. The hosts held a 28-6 lead until just over four minutes remained in the game when the Jamison-to-Achenbach connection worked for another TD. The two-point conversion set the score at 28-14, where it remained.

Freddie Lewis was 3-of-5 for 110 yards and a 69-yard TD for the hosts, with Brandyn Feighner catching two passes for 95 yards and a score. Cade Flaugh rushed 24 times for 107 yards and a TD as South Hamilton finished with 177 yards on the ground on 49 rushes while holding W-G to 120 yards on 30 carries.

Jamison was 8-20-3 for 187 yards and two scores through the air. Achenbach caught six passes for 150 yards and both TDs, with Cale Pritchett pulling down two aerials for 37 yards. Kade Polich (5-63), Tate Lettow (20-42) and Jamison (5-15) accounted for the W-G running attack.

Jamison led the defense with 9.5 stops, with Garrett Burkhart making six tackles while Lettow and Trevor Simmons had 5.5 denials each.

W-G hosts Van Meter (3-0), a 2018 semi-finalist, Friday. The Bulldogs own wins of 33-12 over Earlham and 40-6 over Pella Christian. They blanked Madrid, 42-0, in week three.
