Eight teams of eight faced off in the second annual Trivia with Friends fundraiser Thursday at La Poste LLC in Perry. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Perry Public Library, and proceeds support library programs.
“Who’s buried in Grant’s tomb?” was not among the U.S. presidential trivia questions, but instead contestants were puzzled by the identity of the only unmarried president, the youngest president on taking office and the president called Canal Boy and Old Smiling Beard.
Players learned the Tennessee Tailor — not Old Hickory — was impeached along with Slick Willie and Dutch Reagan was not only the eldest president ever to assume the office but was also one of only four U.S. presidents whose first and last names started with the same letter (the Phrasemaker Woodrow Wilson, the Great Engineer Herbert Hoover, Silent Cal Coolidge).
Trivialists lubricated their wits with refreshments served by Colleen Eckhoff and Pat Snyder.
“This is a wonderful turnout,” said Perry Public Librarian Jill Cook. “We’ll be doing it again soon because everyone enjoys it.”
