WOODWARD — Once conference foes, West Marshall and Woodward-Granger rarely cross paths anymore. Saturday, therefore, brought back memories of the old HOIAC, with the visiting Trojans using a big first quarter to post a 56-35 non-conference win in girls cage play.

Ranked 14th in Class 3A, West Marshall (12-3) surged to an 18-2 lead after eight minutes of play, and entered the intermission in possession of a 33-14 advantage.

W-G (3-14) faced a 46-21 deficit entering the fourth quarter and could take only four points off the margin in suffering the loss.

Isabelle Gradwell, a 6-1 senior, had 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and six steals for the Trojans. Karlyn Snider had 15 points and six boards and Kayla Cripps 10 points and eight caroms, with Hart Jaiden scoring five points while Renae Schaper had two points, nine rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Kayley Dresback and Natalie Helbling had 12 points apiece for W-G. Alyssa Bice had four points, with three points from Lisa Pitman and two apiece from Katelyn Scharlau and Mae Anderson capped the Hawk scoring.

W-G is at Ogden Tuesday before hosting Madrid Friday.
