Blackened wood can be seen under the gray cable guard where damage occurred that caused a brief "blink" in power across Perry about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Perry Public Library closed 90 minutes early Tuesday evening following a power outage that left the facility without computer, phone and internet services and only partial lighting inside.

A crew member with Alliant Energy said damage occurred to a three-phase electrical power line at the corner of Second Street and Otley Avenue, causing a “blink” in electrical service about 4:40 p.m. from the substation of Perry’s west side to the Dallas County Hospital.

Power was partially lost only in the library and the Des Moines Area Community College Perry VanKirk Career Academy, the Alliant worker said.

A repair crew was on scene by 7 p.m., and full power was restored to the library by 8 p.m., according to Perry Public Library Assistant Director Misty VonBehren.

The Perry Public Library will open Wednesday at its usual time of 10 a.m., VonBehren said.

An Alliant Energy crew responded to the power outage caused by damage to a three-phase electrical line at Second Street and Otley Avenue Tuesday.
