Randi Boelkes, left, director of promotions, and her mom, Juanita Slaughter, director of operations, open the Twisted Corn Tavern April 10.

The Twisted Corn Tavern serves traditional American food, such as pizza and burgers, at lunch and dinnertime.

In the two months since opening, the Twisted Corn Tavern in Dallas Center has already proven itself a welcome successor to the Longest Yard.

Brian and Tiffany Filloon of West Des Moines put the Longest Yard on the market just about one year ago, and the mother-daughter team of Juanita Slaughter of Dallas Center and Randi Boelkes of Ankeny bought them out and opened April 10 as the Twisted Corn Tavern.

There is a rational division of labor between the owners, with Juanita the director of operations and Randi the director or promotions.

“I make the schedules and am here everyday,” Juanita said, “making sure things are running smoothly.”

They have attracted a talented staff to assist them in serving traditional American food, such as pizza and burgers, at lunch and dinnertime. View the full menu by clicking here.

“We’re your Raccoon River Valley Trail eating and drinking destination in Dallas Center,” Randi said. “Find us three blocks off of Highway 44.”

The Twisted Corn Tavern is located at 1405 Walnut St. in Dallas Center. It is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

The Twisted Corn Tavern employs a first-rate staff, even if they do get a little out of hand.
