Perry firefighters examine the tree line along the 1800 block of 16th Street in search of a reported fire.

Nearly simultaneous reports of fire were received by the Perry public safety dispatchers about 10 p.m. Tuesday, with one proving minor and the second unfounded.

Sparks from a shorting transformer at 1820 Fifth St. brought the Perry Police Department and Perry Volunteer Fire Department to the scene. The arcing apparently occurred as a result of Alliant Energy’s work on restoring Perry’s power grid.

A electrical fire was also reported about 10 p.m. at 1802 16th St. near Hiawatha Street.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department and two Alliant Energy vehicles responded and examined the overhead power lines, but no fire was detected.
