Two suspects were arrested and a third eluded law enforcement in Dallas Center Monday night after a short car chase and foot chase.
A statement released Tuesday by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office said the chase began when a deputy sheriff tried to pull over a 1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee in a routine traffic stop about 8:15 p.m. Monday at Iowa Highway 44 and Quinlan Avenue in Dallas Center.
The Jeep instead sped away, and a short chase followed, with the vehicle soon crashing on Linden Street in Dallas Center. Three people fled on foot from the Jeep.
Deputies apprehended the driver, Zachariah Shulte, 28, and Mickeala Johnson, 23. The third person escaped arrest.
Schulte and Johnson were transported to the hospital following arrest and treated for injuries sustained in the wreck of the Jeep. Johnson was later arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Fort Des Moines Community Corrections Complex.
A search of the Jeep uncovered marijuana, methamphetamine, paraphernalia and prescription medication. Charges will be filed pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s statement said.
The Dallas County Sheriff asks anyone with information about this investigation or the third passenger in the Jeep to call 515-993-4567.
