Two vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of Iowa Highway 141 near Quinlan Avenue Thursday about 7:45 p.m.
According to an eyewitness to the incident who was also traveling west on Iowa Highway 141, a silver Chevrolet Cruze was preparing to pass a white Chevrolet Impala when the driver of the Impala hit his brakes, causing the Cruze to strike the Impala from the rear.
The Impala then left the roadway, according to the witness, and traveled westward for a distance in the north ditch before returning to the roadway and striking the Cruze in its right front quarter.
Both vehicles came to rest pointing westward on the north shoulder of the highway.
The witness also reported hearing statements to the effect that the driver of the Impala suffered a medical emergency immediately prior to the accident.
The statements of the witness have not been independently confirmed, and the incident is under investigation at this hour by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.
The Woodward First Responders, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS also responded to the scene.
