Two injured when tractor, pickup collide in Guthrie County

Two men were injured Wednesday night in rural Guthrie County when a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor on the county blacktop.


The collision occurred about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday three miles south of Bayard on Justice Road (County Road N70) north of 140th Street.

Two men were injured Wednesday night in rural Guthrie County when a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor on the county blacktop.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, the collision occurred about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday three miles south of Bayard on Justice Road (County Road N70) north of 140th Street, where Steven Kevin Derry, 60, of Audubon was traveling northbound on a 1970 International 856 tractor when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Kaleb Michael Borders, 23, of Copperas Cove, Texas.

Borders was transported by Mercy One air ambulance to Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. Derry was transported by Bayard Fire and Rescue to the Audubon County Hospital.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, according to the ISP report.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office, Greene County Sheriff’s office, Adair Volunteer Fire Department, Bayard Fire and Rescue and Mercy One Des Moines.
