Two Perry men face assault charges after a melee Monday night on Sixth Street followed by an hour-long standoff on First Avenue in Perry.
The incident began shortly after 10 p.m., when Perry Police Department Officers were dispatched to 1223 Sixth St. after a caller reported a fight involving multiple people, according to a statement released Tuesday morning by the Perry Police Department.
The statement said an officer located a potential suspect at the Sixth Street residence, but the person attempted to flee and was later caught a short distance away. Justin Skaggs, 19, of Perry was arrested on charges of public intoxication and interference with official acts.
Subsequent investigation also identified Skaggs as a suspect in the alleged assault. While investigating the assault, officers were dispatched to Casey’s on First Avenue for a second disturbance that proved to be related to the incident on Sixth Street.
Officers located a second suspect, Mark Campos-Alvarez, 19, of Perry, in an apartment house at 1313 First Ave. Campos-Alvarez and three other persons in the apartment at first refused to open the door and cooperate with officers.
After negotiating with law enforcement for about one hour, the four persons voluntarily exited the residence and were detained as part of the assault investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Campos-Alvarez was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury, and Skaggs was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury in addition to the charges of second-offense public intoxication and interference with official acts.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed, police said.
The Perry Police Department was assisted in the incident by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Woodward Police Department.
