DES MOINES, Iowa — United Way of Central Iowa has begun providing a free text message support service, called TextSupport: Central Iowa Schools.

With TextSupport, students, parents, caregivers and supportive service providers of students attending schools in Polk, Dallas or Warren counties can sign up to receive updates about their schools and other local resources via text message. Standard message and data rates may apply.

TextSupport will send weekly customized text updates and announcements for each school district to subscribers, including information on where to receive free school meals, transportation and other critical community resources in an effort to help students focus on their education.

TextSupport also improves awareness of organizations and programs that are available to help families meet their needs during this unsettled pandemic period.

“United Way of Central Iowa is proud to offer a unique resource during a time when there are critical and essential updates being made often,” said Kate Bennett, United Way of Central Iowa community impact officer in education. “It’s our hope that TextSupport: Central Iowa Schools will be a resource to help ensure students across central Iowa, and the people who support them, are informed and can confidently navigate this unprecedented time.”

To sign up, text “CENTRAL IOWA SCHOOLS” or “CIAS” to 898211. Subscribers will then be prompted to text their county, then school district. Participants may text STOP at any time to stop receiving messages.
