Mediacom customers are still without telephone, internet and cable services Thursday morning after a downed power pole near 180th Street on U.S. Highway 169 north of Minburn disrupted internet service about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Telephone, internet and cable service remain suspended Thursday morning for local customers of Mediacom after a downed power pole near 180th Street on U.S. Highway 169 north of Minburn disrupted internet service about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“There’s still an open outage,” according to Herbert Southey, a Mediacom technical support staffer in Florida who spoke to ThePerryNews.com about 9 a.m. Thursday. “Fiber was cut from a vehicle accident,” he said. “Fiber crews are on site and splicing the fiber. They don’t know how long it’s going to take to resolve it. There’s no estimated time of return.”

Service was restored to customers of the local provider BTWI early Thursday, according to BTWI Network Engineer Nathan Leerhoff of Perry.

“We installed a back up and got it up about 1 a.m., so we are back up.” Leerhoff told ThePerryNews.com about 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

He said a MidAmerican Energy crew finished repairing the downed power pole about 1:30 a.m.

“Fiber is still down,” Leerhoff said. “I went there about half an hour ago, and no one is there. I’m trying to get an eta, but no luck yet.”

The outage occurred when a backhoe doing dirt work at 17914 N Ave. apparently caused the power pole to fall and cut the fiber optic cable connection serving local customers.

ThePerryNews.com will update this story as information becomes available.
