Michael Jason, Godwin, 31, of Perry was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and willful injury causing bodily injury.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office released a statement Wednesday evening about the arrest of Michael Godwin of Perry on a charge of attempted murder.

Dallas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Adam Infante described the investigation leading to Godwin’s arrest Wednesday in connection with the March 2020 incident.

Godwin is held in the Dallas County Jail without bond pending an initial appearance July 2 in Dallas County District Court.

Infante’s statement said:

On March 2, 2020, at approximately 8:34 p.m., the Dallas County Deputies were dispatched to the Dallas County Hospital to take an assault call.

When Deputies arrived, they spoke with a victim who was severely injured in the face/head area. The victim and witnesses identified a possible suspect of Michael Godwin DOB 1/15/1989 of Perry, Iowa.

Detectives from the Dallas County Sheriff’s office conducted dozens of interviews, collected several pieces of evidence and executed multiple search warrants. It was discovered from the investigation that Godwin had struck the victim in the face and head area with a metal jack handle, causing serious injuries to the victim.

After lab results were received, Godwin was charged with Attempted Murder (B Felony) and Willful Injury-Causing Serious Injury (C Felony).

Godwin was arrested on July 1, 2020, and is in the Dallas County Jail.
