Lot 24 at Bar-Jac Estates in Perry was destroyed by fire Monday evening.

Perry Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Hinds has released additional details regarding the fire Monday evening that destroyed a trailer.

Lot 24 of Bar-Jac Mobile Home Estates, 2801 First Ave., was consumed by a fire that was initially reported at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Edwin Adam Rivas, owner of the trailer, said he first noticed the blaze through a living room window. At that time it was noticed that the entire front porch area of the residence was on fire, blocking the only normal avenue of escape.

Rivas told firefighters he was forced to take his family out the rear door of the mobile home to escape the fast-spreading flames, but that the back door had been sealed up. A neighbor pulling from the outside and Rivas shoving from the inside finally managed to pry the door open enough to allow everyone to escape unharmed.

A total of 20 firefighters were on scene for the PVFD. Local fire investigator Brian Eiteman said the fire does not appear to be of suspicious nature and the cause has been ruled to be undetermined.

  1. Please help this family. They have lost everything. They are staying with a family next door to me. Please give whatever you can to help them start over. Bless you!
