Derek Jay Aberle, 31, of Ames was booked into the Dallas County Jail Tuesday evening on a charge of indecent exposure.

Four counts of indecent exposure have been filed against a West Des Moines man after he allegedly exposed himself to four girls in the parking lot of the Jordan Creek Town Center Sunday afternoon.

Derek Jay Aberle, 31, of 8655 Bridgewood Blvd., West Des Moines, was charged with four counts of indecent exposure.

The incident began about 2:30 p.m. Sunday when an officer of the West Des Moines Police Department met at the Jordan Creek Town Center with four juvenile females who were the victims of the alleged crime.

According to court records, the girls told police they were “siting in their vehicle, eating,”
when a car parked next to theirs and the driver, unknown to the victims but later identified as Aberle, exited his car and approached the driver’s side of the girls’ car.

Aberle allegedly then “proceeded to pull out his penis, place it against the driver window and rub it back and forth on the window.”

According to court records, “It was at this moment the victims’ vehicle was placed in reverse and backed out of the parking space at an accelerated rate.”

Aberle allegedly returned to his vehicle and fled the area, but not before one of the victims “captured a picture of the suspect vehicle,” including its license plate number. Security video footage at the Jordan Creek Mall later confirmed the information, according to court records.

After interviewing with the victims, the officer made contact with Aberle at his West Des Moines residence, where he allegedly “admitted to exposing his genitals and placing them on the victims’ vehicle. He believed it was for sexual gratification but also stated he had been abusing his prescription medication (Ritalin).”

Aberle is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 30 in Dallas County District Court.
