BOONE, Iowa — An 18-year-old man was reportedly shot in Franklin Park at 13th and Carroll streets in Boone Thursday afternoon.

The gunman reportedly fled but was taken into custody at the Boone County Fairgrounds.

Law enforcement vehicles and crime-scene tape could be seen in the area.

A Grand Junction woman claimed on Facebook about 3 p.m. that the victim is being treated for gunshot wounds sustained in the incident.

“I do not know all the details,” the woman said on Facebook. “However, I am asking for prayers for Taylor’s boyfriend. He was shot in both legs today. The county hospital already has the bullets. They lifeflighted him to Des Moines for surgery. Please pray for recovery and answers.”

The Boone Community School District and Trinity School announced a lockdown Thursday afternoon about 1:50 p.m. The BCSD issued the following statement:

Due to a safety issue in the community involving police, as a precautionary measure, the schools have gone into lockdown. No one may leave or enter the buildings until further notice. No students are in danger, and no incidences happened at the school. This is a safety measure so students are not out in the community until we are sure all is safe.

As the district is on lockdown, we ask that no parents come to the buildings until notified of the all clear and the lockdown has been lifted. We will keep all students safe and in school until the lockdown is lifted. No students will be released until the lockdown is lifted.

Trinity Schools have requested that parents wait to pick up their children from the school until all is clear.
