Gage Walter, 27, of Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested Sunday after seeking refuge in a Winterset church. He is a suspect in the murders of his grandmother and great-grandmother.

An Omaha man who tried to elude law enforcement Sunday morning by seeking refuge in a Winterset church is suspected of murdering his grandmother and great-grandmother Friday night in Omaha.

Gage Walter, 27, of Omaha surrendered Sunday after several hours of negotiations with law enforcement.

Walter is wanted in connection with the deaths of Linda Walter, 70, of Omaha and Marceline Teeters, 93, of Omaha, who were found dead inside an Omaha residence Saturday, according to law enforcement.

The high-speed pursuit began Sunday morning when officers of the West Des Moines Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a vehicle near the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines. The driver, Walter, fled the scene and led law enforcement on a chase into Madison County.

The pursuit ended when Walter abandoned the vehicle and barricaded himself into the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. The church was reportedly vacant when Walter entered.

Walter was taken into custody without incident. The Douglas County Attorney’s office in Omaha is seeking extradition, according to law enforcement.

Walter has a history of meth use and is schizophrenic, according to his parents.
