UPDATE: One dead in fiery crash west of Adel Sunday evening

All occupants are presumed dead in the crash of a single vehicle on Old Highway 6 near Panther Creek Sunday shortly before 6 p.m.

One person died Sunday evening when his or her vehicle flipped onto its top after leaving the roadway and burst into flames. The identity of the victim is unknown at this hour.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on Old Highway 6 at Panther Creek Road west of Adel and was reported to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office at 5:53 p.m.

According to a statement released about 8:30 p.m. by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, “Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that a vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed and ended up hitting a tree. The vehicle then caught on fire, and the only passenger in the vehicle was found deceased. This investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the driver is still undetermined.”

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.

“More details and the identity of the driver will be released when it is known and next of kin have been located and advised,” said Dallas County Chief Deputy Adam Infante. “We appreciate your patience in this investigation as we do our best to determine the facts.”

The Adel First Responders, Adel Volunteer Fire Department, Adel Police Department, Redfield Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS also responded.
