One man was taken into custody and one transported by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital following a shooting about 7 a.m. in a residence on the Moran Curve.

One man was transported by air ambulance to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines and another was taken into custody by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office following an early morning shooting on the Moran Curve south of Woodward.

Dallas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Adam Infante said a 911 call was received at 6:53 a.m. from 15742 Tanner Lane, and “a person residing at this address called and stated that they had shot somebody.”

Radio traffic indicted the wounds were to the man’s upper torso and the thigh. The weapon was not yet identified, Infante said, but a search warrant is being ordered for the residence near Iowa Highway 141 and T Avenue.

He said the shooter surrendered to law enforcement without resistance.

“He was taken into custody with no issues,” Infante said. “The scene here is safe. Nobody else is in danger. We believe this to be an isolated incident to this address and not a danger to the public.”

Infante said the 911 caller “implied that it was self-defense, but I think it is too early for us to make that judgment. We’ve got a long ways to go here, gathering some evidence and facts.”

He said the sheriff’s office was conducting interviews and canvassing the neighborhood for information.

“We’ve requested the assistance of the (Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation) to help process the crime scene,” Infante said. “Once we get all that information together along with those interviews, we’ll make a determination on what we think happened.”

Radio traffic indicated agents of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation arrived at the scene about noon.

The Woodward First Responders and Woodward Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
