UPDATE: Panora man killed in head-on crash near Dawson Friday

A Panora man was killed Friday morning south of Dawson when the semi-tractor trailer he was driving had a head-on collision with a passenger car.

Douglas D. Harrison, 57, of Panora was southbound on D Avenue or County Road P46 when his Kenworth truck was struck by a 2015 Lexus GS350 traveling northbound and driven by Chung C. Lo, 49, of West Des Moines.

Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iowa State Medical examiner. Lo was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. His condition is unknown.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch of D Avenue about 40 yards apart. Harrison was reportedly hauling lime, which spilled across the roadway when his truck overturned.

The circumstances of the collision are under investigation at this hour by the Iowa State Patrol.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department Dawson and Perry stations, Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Guthrie County Sheriff’s office, Dallas County EMS, Guthrie County EMS, Panora EMS and Mercy One air ambulance responded.
