Charges were filed Tuesday against a Perry man whose car shattered into three pieces Monday morning after striking a pole at high speed in Perry.

Erick Soriano, 33, of 1702 W. Fifth St., Perry, was transported from the scene to the Dallas County Hospital by the Dallas County EMS.

Soriano was issued a citation for failure to maintain control and reckless driving. A citation for speeding is pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Perry Police Department.

Soriano was traveling westbound in a 2014 Honda Accord shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of westbound Iowa Highway 141, where he lost control of the vehicle and struck the traffic light pole on the north side of the intersection in front of the old Shopko store.

The Honda was split in two by the pole. A large section of the vehicle was lodged against the pole, and the remainder hurtled westward along the ditch and broke up into further pieces.

Damages were estimated at $16,500.

The Perry First Responders and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
