Soriano was traveling westbound in a 2014 Honda Accord shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of westbound Iowa Highway 141, where he lost control of the vehicle and struck the traffic light pole on the north side of the intersection in front of the old Shopko store.

The Honda was split in two by the pole. A large section of the vehicle was lodged against the pole, and the remainder hurtled westward along the ditch and broke up into further pieces.

Damages were estimated at $16,500.
