UPDATE: Perry Police Chief issues statement on Thursday robbery

Matthew Spaulding, left, and Timothy Pittman were arrested in Perry Thursday afternoon and are being held at the Dallas County Jail.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn issued the following public statement today about incidents occurring Thursday afternoon in downtown Perry:

“On 08-27-15 at about 1319 hrs a victim reported that a ring, cell phone, pocket knife and bicycle had been taken from him near W 5th St and Dewey. The victim then reported the incident from Casey’s at 1308 1st Ave. While reporting it, the suspects were seen by the victim entering Kum and Go located at 1219 1st Ave. A Perry officer responded to Kum and Go and took two persons into custody. They were as follows:

Matthew James Spaulding (DOB11/24/1991)
Timothy Glen Pittman (DOB 03/06/1992)

“A third possible suspect fled east across 1st Ave. Additional officers assisted by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate the third suspect in the area of the 1200 blk of 2nd St but were unable to locate them at the time.

“Both subjects were arrested on unrelated charges. Spaulding was arrested on a charge of Possession for Marijuana 3rd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor). Pittman was charged with Possession of Marijuana (Serious Misdemeanor)

“No charges have been yet been filed in connection with the robbery and the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information in regards to this please call the Perry Police Department at 515-465-4636 or Perry Crime Stoppers at 515-465-5661.”
