A Perry woman was arrested Tuesday night for alleged drunk driving after rolling her SUV and striking barbed wire fencing along Iowa Highway 144 north of Perry.
Yoana Arreola Adams, 29, of 2101 Lucida St., Perry, was charged with third-offense OWI, open container, driving under suspension, failure to maintain control and no insurance.
The incident occurred about 8:45 p.m. on 325th Street (Iowa Highway 144) just east of Clover Avenue (County Road P54) in Boone County.
The 2014 Dodge Durango sustained significant front-end driver’s-side damage, including a smashed windshield and sunroof and a crumpled quarter panel. A length of barbed wire was tangled in the vehicle, which came to rest on the shoulder of the northbound lane of 325th Street.
Adams submitted to a preliminary breath test, administered by a Boone County Deputy Sheriff, and she blew a .319. She also failed a series of field sobriety tests.
Adams is held in the Boone County Jail. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 10 in Boone County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Third drunken driving arrest? She is very lucky there was not a second vehicle involved because it would be prison time for sure. If she hires a gunslinger for a lawyer, she will likely avoid prison, and in a few months we will read about the fourth arrest.
Sandy Bishop, let me guess. You’re a gun-toting law-abiding citizen who has had zero family effected by substance abuse. You never have ever done anything wrong. Am I right? So much so that you ordained yourself judge and executioner. What a low-class piece of work your comment is. Kick someone while they’re down. That’ll teach them. Heck, three OWIs, she’ll never learn, right? That type of thinking is exactly why our suicide rates are high and people in the throws of addiction feel they have nobody to turn to. I sincerely hope you find something that you can be compassionate about. God knows, it’s not humanity.
One year ago she was drinking and driving plus assaulting the officer. This time she had .319 blood alcohol content. Iowa has a .08 limit, so she was .001 from being four times over the limit and you are worried about her feelings? She could have killed someone! Lock her up!

She has not killed someone in her three drunk driving arrests, but you want to be nice to her so she can try to kill someone a fourth time. Ross, do not worry. Your drinking buddy will be let loose soon, and you two can get rip-roaring drunk together and go cruising. Just tell the rest of us when you two are going to be on the roads, please.

First, attempt to clarify your ignoranus comment for us. What I hear you saying is that once a person makes a certain number of mistakes, they are unforgivable? Also, are you saying the road to redemption and change is through the gates of a prison? Is that right? When you answer, I’ll state a few facts I think you’ll find surprising. Before I end, I’ll say this: It’s nothing shy of upsetting that you take the time to publicly condemn someone you don’t know and basically do the same type of thing that was done in Salem many years ago. With that situation, they found that the women they declared to be witches actually weren’t witches but were terribly sick due to ergot poisoning. Never would have known had you read the papers of those times or the people like yourself, who do a whole lot of talking but lack facts and compassion. See, maybe this woman was suffering from rape or depression or an abusive past that drinking was the only way she knew to deal with these things. You see, when you ACTUALLY CARE about human life and invest a little time into a subject, you’ll find that addictions are usually a secondary response. I don’t know this woman, but I too have had to overcome such public ridicule from this town and paper you’re reading and adding nothing to. It set me back for three years because I had to see the comments from no-compassion, backward-thinking people like yourself. You know what’s worse? This doesn’t go away.
