The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Polk County and southeastern Dallas County until 8:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:15 p.m. for western Polk County and central Dallas County.

At 8:22 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located near Dallas Center and moving northeasterly at 20 mph.

Sixty mph wind gusts and half-dollar-size hail is forecast. Hail damage to vehicles and to roofs, siding and trees is expected.

Locations impacted include West Des Moines, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Grimes, Adel, Windsor Heights, Polk City, Dallas Center, Granger, De Soto, Big Creek Lake, Jordan Creek Town Center, Saylorville Lake, Valley West Mall, Redfield, Minburn, Walnut Woods State Park and Big Creek State Park.

The severe thunderstorm warning area includes U.S. Interstate 35 between mile markers 68 and 72, U.S. Interstate 80 between mile markers 114 and 130 and U.S. Interstate 235 between mile markers 1 and 3.
