UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning until 11 a.m. for Perry area

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 11 a.m. for the Perry area.

At 10:11 a.m. severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 11 miles east of Lake City to near Jefferson to 8 miles west of Stuart and moving eastward at 55 mph.

The NWS predicts 70 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Hail damage to vehicles and trees is expected.Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes,
roofs and outbuildings.

Along with Perry, the severe thunderstorm warning includes the cities of West Des Moines, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Boone, Grimes, Jefferson, Adel, Guthrie Center, Polk City, Madrid, Ogden, Stuart, Dallas Center, Earlham, Granger, Panora and De Soto.

A severe thunderstorm watch for the Perry area also remains in effect until 2 p.m. Monday.

Along with Dallas County, the severe thunderstorm watch includes the counties of Adair, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Franklin, Greene, Gundry, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Pocahontas, Polk, Poweshiek, Sac, Story, Tama, Wapello, Warren, Webster and Wright.
