Law enforcement radio traffic indicated a suspect was taken into custody about 12:10 a.m. Friday in the officer-involved shooting that began about 10:45 p.m. Thursday at the Summit Street Apartments at 52 S.W. Seventh St. in Stuart.
Three injured law enforcement are in stable condition following the incident, according to Mary Little-Van Eaton, reporter with the Stuart Herald. Two Guthrie County Deputy Sheriffs and one Stuart Police Department Officer are in stable condition, Little-Van Eaton reports.
According to Little-Van Eaton, the shooter in the incident was Randall Lee Comly, 52, of 615 S.W. Seventh St., #1, Stuart. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and local law enforcement agencies, which held a press conference early Friday in Stuart, have not confirmed the identitfy of the shooter.
Little-Van Eaton said Comly was injured in the gun fight and transported by EMS. A second suspect is also in custody, she said.
Law enforcement cleared the dwelling where the suspects were barricaded for about 90 minutes. A SWAT team was mobilized at the scene, according to radio traffic.
Comly was arrested in August 2019 and awaits trial in Guthrie County District Court on charges of first-degree burglary and terrorism after he allegedly entered a private residence and discharged a firearm. Comly was convicted of two counts of a controlled substance violation in April 2019 in Clarke County District Court.
