UPDATE: Subjects identified in Moran shooting

The shooting occurred shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday at a residence on the Moran Curve south of Woodward.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office has identified the men involved in a shooting about 7 a.m. Wednesday in a house on the Moran Curve south of Woodward on Iowa Highway 141.

According to a statement released Wednesday afternoon, the 911 caller who reported the shooting was Steven J. Caldwell, 45, of 15742 Tanner Lane. Caldwell told the
Dallas County dispatchers who took the call at 6:53 a.m. that he just shot Scott R. Hansen, 45, of rural Rippey, “for coming into his home.”

According to the statement, deputies arrived at 6:58 a.m. and “located Hansen in the front yard” of the Tanner Lane residence “with gunshot wounds to the torso area.”

Hansen was airlifted to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. His condition and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time, the statement said. A family member said Hansen was shot four times.

A firearm was recovered, the statement said. There is no known danger to the rest of the community.

Caldwell and another witness were interviewed and are cooperating with the investigation, the statement said.

Detectives with the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, with the assistance of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, are still processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses.
