A Marshalltown man was shot to death early Monday on the job at the Casey's store on N. Third Avenue in Marshalltown.

Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help in locating the person who shot and killed a man at a Casey’s store early Monday in Marshalltown.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Michael Ray West, 48, of Marshalltown was working at the Casey’s store at 111 N. Third Ave. when he was shot and killed Monday shortly after 3 a.m., according to a statement released Monday afternoon by the Marshalltown Police Department.

Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help in locating the shooter, who was seen leaving the scene and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants. The suspect is possibly a Latino male with an accent and is described as being short in stature.

Potential witnesses are reportedly being interviewed, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has established a crime scene unit and is assisting the Marshalltown Police Department in the ongoing investigation.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s office, Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point Ambulance Service also responded to the initial 911 calls.

Law enforcement encourages community members to be alert for suspicious activity and to report concerns immediately by calling 911.
