UPDATE: Victim identified in motorcycle fatality south of Redfield

The motorcyclist found Sunday near the intersection of South Old Highway 6 and Bear Creek Road south of Redfield has been identified as a 29-year-old Nebraska man.

The lifeless body of a motorcyclist found Sunday afteroon near the intersection of South Old Highway 6 and Bear Creek Road south of Redfield was that of a Nebraska man missing since Friday, according to a statement issued Monday by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.

Austin Welke, 29, of Chadron, Neb., was staying in Redfield for work. According to law enforcement, Welke’s friends had not been seen or heard from him since Friday.

Welke appeared to have been dead for several days when his body was discovered Sunday, the sheriff’s office said. Foul play is not suspected in the case.

The State Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy, according to the statement.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was assisted in the accident investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County EMS and Redfield First Responders.
