Urban cattle trample neighbors’ private property rights

Five head of cattle are herded Thursday morning by officers of the Perry Police Department and a concerned private citizen.

Five head of cattle took their free ranging a little too freely Thursday morning when they wandered from their enclosure and onto the fertile feeding grounds of the Sunflower Flats housing subdivision near 16th and North streets.

Making like cowboys, officers of the Perry Police Department responded to the scene about 10:15 a.m. and herded the carefree kine back to their pen with the help of a local farmer.

The restive ruminants briefly threatened to interfere with official acts when they disregarded the officers’ directions, but the better angels of their placid natures gained ascendance in the end, and the browsing bovines complied.

Three of the cows were black, and one was white. There was also one brown cow.

  1. Why are the cattle so far from the camera? Everyone must have been really afraid of the cattle. I can’t tell if they are Herfords, Angus, Limosine or Limosine mixes. What brand of cattle were they anyway? Just wondered!

    • We never wish to interfere or get in the way of police actions, and so we recorded the breaking news from a safe distance in our vehicle, kind of like on a safari. We are no cattlemen and identified the genetically modified livestock as closely as we could, that is, three black, one white and one brown cow. As for that, ThePerryNews.com could use a knowledgeable ag reporter. It is one of the gaps in our staff.
