An Urbandale man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly slugging his wife in front of the kids.

Jerry Ray Johnson, 48, of 3928 156th St., Urbandale, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and child endangerment-bodily injury.

The incident began Tuesday about 4:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of 156th Street, where officers of the Urbandale Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The victim told the officers that “she confronted the suspect about his drinking,” and Johnson “became upset” and allegedly “pushed her” and “hit her in the face,” according to court records.

The victim said that “she fell down to the ground” and felt “pain in her jaw.” The officers observed that the victim “had visible injuries to her face,” according to court records.

Two minor children were present in the residence at the time of the alleged assault, and “one of the minors called the police,” according to court records.

Johnson is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 28 in Dallas County District Court.
