An Urbandale man was arrested Sunday morning on a murder charge in connection with the death Saturday evening of a woman in Urbandale.

Dustin Lee Sample, 35, of 4205 90th St., Urbandale, was charged with first-degree murder.

The incident began about 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the 4200 bock of 90th Street in Urbandale, where officers of the Urbandale Police Department responded to a report of a medical emergency.

The responding officers found an adult female suffering from head trauma. The victim died at the scene, according to a statement released Sunday by the Urbandale Police Department.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification, the statement said.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Urbandale Police Department with an investigation of the incident, which is being treated as a homicide. Agents will “continue to interview witnesses, examine evidence and follow investigative leads,” the statement said.

Sample is held without bond in the Polk County Jail. His prior records consist largely of shoplifting convictions and traffic violations.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
