An Urbandale man was arrested Sunday night after police found him inhaling nitrous oxide while sitting inside a running vehicle in a closed garage.
Kristian Adolfo Ramos, 34, of 5429 150th St., Urbandale, was charged with two counts of child endangerment, interference with officials acts, first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of nitrous oxide.
The incident began about 11:15 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 5400 block of 150th Street, where officers of the Urbandale Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity.
When the officers arrived, they found that “in the garage was a Lamborghini Urus with two occupants,” Ramos and his wife, according to court records. The car was running inside the closed garage.
Ramos, in the driver’s seat, was holding “a colored canister containing nitrous oxide,” and he allegedly “was inhaling the canister for the purpose of recreational impairment,” according to court records.
As the officers “began giving commands,” Ramos allegedly “began to rev the car several times,” and he “continued the use of inhaling the cannister,” according to court records.
Ramos continued huffing the nitrous during the course of the incident, and he “would laugh in a manic, uncontrollable way that appeared inappropriate,” according to court records.
At length Ramos “was extracted from the vehicle” by law enforcement officers after he allegedly disregarded repeated directions to shut off the vehicle and exit the vehicle, according to court records.
A probable cause search of the vehicle disclosed “additional nitrous oxide cannisters,” and on Ramos’ person were found “several multicolored balloons, THC vape, marijuana Delta 9 gummies” and “a small bag of additional marijuana gummies,” according to court records.
Two children “were present in the home with the attached garage where the running vehicle was present for an extended period of time,” according to court records.
Ramos is held in the Dallas County Jail $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 30 in Dallas County District Court.
Ramos was convicted of obstruction of emergency communications and interference with official acts on Tuesday in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon in 2019 in Polk County District Court.
