An Urbandale man was arrested Sunday in connection with a July incident at a motel in West Des Moines, where he was allegedly found in possession of one ounce of methamphetamine and a smaller quantity of marijuana.
Blake Laine Whisenand, 35, of 4005 71st St., Urbandale, was arrested on a warrant for first-offense possession of a controlled substance, controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp.
The incident occurred July 15 about 10 p.m. at a motel in the 1200 block of Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, where offices of the West Des Moines Police Department made contact with Whisenand in his vehicle.
According to court records, the officers “detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle,” and a subsequent search of the vehicle disclosed “approximately 9 grams of marijuana, a loaded needle and 28 grams of methamphetamine.”
Whisenand “admitted the narcotics located inside the vehicle were his” and “admitted to distributing methamphetamine,” according to court records.
An warrant for Whisenand’s arrest was ordered Aug. 11 in Dallas County District Court and served Sept. 13. Whisenand was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
Whisenand was convicted of a controlled substance violation in 2008 in Polk County District Court and in 2017 in Warren County District Court. He was convicted of second-offense possession of a controlled substance in 2019 in Polk County District Court.
