VAN METER — Turning a 20-5 first quarter lead into a 38-19 halftime bulge more than provided enough margin for Van Meter, who went on to record a 76-34 win over visiting Woodward-Granger in WCC boys basketball Friday.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 9-4) had scored a 68-52 win in Woodward Dec. 11 but had complete control of the second meeting and finished with an impressive 36-12 rebounding edge.

W-G (2-12, 2-9) shot 13-of-37 from the floor, but their hosts attempted nearly 20 additional shots and finished 32-of-56 from the hardwood.

Nick Squires had 13 points and three rebounds for W-G, with Cameron Hoyt scoring eight points, Marcus McConahay six, Bodie Harrison five and Brendan Bird two. Harriosn had three rebounds and three assists, with Brady Aunspach providing three assists.

Zach Forret had 15 points and seven boards for the home team, with Ben Trent scoring 10 points, clearing five caroms, distributing six assists and making four steals. Kyle Schmitt had nine points and four steals and Alec Pothoff nine points to lead the Bulldogs.

W-G is at Ogden tonight and will return home to host Madrid Friday.
