WOODWARD — After a back-and-forth affair for 31 minutes it appeared Woodward-Granger had visiting Van Meter right where they wanted them.

The Hawks (3-14, 0-11) had slipped in front, 38-37, and it looked as if an upset might be in the works. Unfortunately for the hosts, the Bulldogs (8-7, 6-5) refused to play along, scoring five unanswered points to steal a 42-38 win in WCAC play.

W-G trailed, 10-9, after one quarter. The Hawks faced a 19-13 deficit at the half, but closed to within 31-30 entering the final frame before falling short.

Clair Lauterbach led Van Meter with 24 points, with Natalie Barth adding 10 points. Emily Roberts provided four points and Lindsey Golwitzer and Kelsey Roberts two points apiece.

Nine points from Alyssa Bice and seven from Katelyn Scharlau paced W-G. Kaitlyn Peters scored six points, with four points apiece coming from Natalie Helbling, Mae Anderson, Kayley Dresback and Lisa Pitman.
