A youthful driver apparently misjudged the steepness of a ditch when parking at the Raccoon River Valley Trail Friday night on F Avenue east of Dawson, and the vehicle tipped gently onto its top in the tall grass of the ditch, leaving all occupants uninjured.
Dawson Fire Chief Bill Kempf, the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas County EMS and the Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident, which occurred about 10:30 p.m.
A group of eight or 10 bystanders were at the scene, making it difficult to determine the number of occupants in the overturned vehicle.

I thought Dawson didn’t have a fire department anymore and that Perry took over.
You are correct. The city council of Dawson, on the recommendation of the town’s mayor, dissolved the volunteer fire department effective July 1 at 12 a.m. Nevertheless, we continue to refer to Dawson Fire Chief Bill Kempf as the fire chief out of respect for him and for lack of a better title.
