A vehicle struck a light pole on U.S. Highway 169 and the Iowa Highway 141 interchange Saturday about 7 p.m. and left the roadway, coming to rest in the ditch on the southeast side of the crossroads.
The two occupants of the Jeep SUV were not injured in the mishap.
Emergency personnel said the vehicle was traveling southbound on N Avenue (U.S. Highway 169) and attempting to enter the on ramp to the eastbound Iowa Highway 141 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which sheared off the light pole in leaving the roadway.
The vehicle’s airbags were deployed. Damage to the vehicle’s front end and top side occurred when it struck the pole.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Bouton Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS responded. Alliant Energy was summoned to secure the exposed wiring in the pole.
