Victim identified, suspect arrested in Lee County death

Damian Hamann, 28, of Morning Sun, Iowa, was charged Sunday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death in connection with the discovery Sunday morning of the body of Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine.

LEE COUNTY, Iowa — A man from Morning Sun turned himself into the Lee County Sheriff’s office Sunday, Aug. 5 in connection with the discovery of the body of a female in rural Lee County earlier in the day, according to a statement released Monday morning by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The woman has been identified as Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine. Her remains were found Sunday morning on a gravel road south of West Point, Iowa, in Lee County.

Charges were filed Sunday against Damiam Hamann, 28, of Morning Sun after the Lee County Attorney’s office was briefed on the facts and circumstances of the investigation, which is ongoing.

Hamann was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death, a class D felony under the Iowa Criminal Code.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the University of Iowa’s Decedent Care Unit.

This is a joint investigation by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation, Lee County Sheriff’s office, Lee County Attorney’s office and the Lee County Medical Examiner’s office.
