Perry freshman Natalie Martinez (10) scores against Des Moines North April 12. Martinez scored three times Saturday as Perry finished 1-1 at the Newton tourney.

Sydney Guerra found the back of the net four times Tuesday. Her Perry teammates combined to stretch the nylon four more times, and with the defense hardly being tested, the Jayettes scored an easy 8-0 win over Des Moines North at Dewey Field.

Perry goalie Amparo Menendez had a lonely match in goal in securing the shutout, but was treated to plenty of offensive fireworks, albeit nearly 100 yards away from her position.

Guerra opened the scoring by connecting off a pass from Janet Ortiz, with Ortiz scoring five minutes later from a Natalie Martinez assist.

Unassisted goals from Guerra in the 11th minute, from Martinez in the 18th minute and from Victoria Hegstrom in the 22nd minute send Perry (2-1 overall) into the intermission with a 5-0 lead.

Jayette head coach Gilmar Guerra played his junior varsity and some freshman for the final 20 minutes of the first half and for even longer periods after the break.

Martinez and Guerra each had unassisted scores in the first two minutes of the second half, with Guerra capping the scoring off a Martinez assist in the fifth minute.

Perry now has 16 goals in three games, with Martinez tied for the Class 2A goals scored lead with nine while Guerra now has five after leading the Jayettes with 10 last season.

The Perry girls will return to the pitch Saturday at the Newton Tournament. They are at Bondurant-Farrar Monday, at Boone April 21 and at Des Moines Christian April 25 before finally returning home to face Gilbert April 26.
