VIDEO: Perry fifth grade band, Bluejay choir hold final concert

The Bluejay Choir, comprised of students in grade three, four and five, performed a variety of numbers at their final concert of the year Monday in the Perry Performing Arts Center.

The sounds emanating from the stage in the Perry Performing Arts Center Monday revealed the future of the instrumental and vocal programs at Perry High School is a bright one.

The fifth grade band and Bluejay Choir (comprised of students in grades 3-4-5) held their final concert of the year before an appreciative audience, delighting the crowd with a display of how far they had advanced their talents this school year.

Under the direction of Devin Schroeder, the band opened the show with six short musical pieces, which increased in length and difficulty as the program progressed.

The choir sang an arrangement of “Hallelujah” followed by “I’m A Believer” the popular hit for the Monkees which enjoyed a resurgence of sorts several years ago by its inclusion in the animated film “Shrek.”

Perry sophomore Breanna Penenger accompanied the choir on flute for “Mo Li Hua” with “Firework” closing the concert.

The choir is directed by Shaylena Bell.

Band members included, on flute: Andy Viveros, Hailey Peterson, Autumn Love, Samantha Galivan and Logan Castillo, with Jose Chavez, Robbie Mason, Martha Turrado, Abigail Crecelius and Trinity Hochstetler on clarinet.

Pauline Galindo and Juan Hernandez were on saxophone and Gavin Hegstrom, Amaya Sexton and Trevor Kirchner on trumpet while Candace Hosington, Kaden Heck and Hackson Tierney provided the percussion.

Fifth grade choir members include: Mirna Alvarenga, Abigail Crecelius, Pauline Galindo, Samantha Gilivan, Elizabeteh Garcia, Christian Garrido, Natalie Guardado, Kayle Hay, Candace Hosington, Autumn Love, Madison Megarit, Katelynn Pentico, Hailey Peterson, Parker Pierce, Sarai Ramos, Anthony Richardson, Roberto Rodriguez, Jackson Tierney, Joanna Ubaldo and Kathryn West.

Choir members from the fourth grade were: Jazmine Castaneda, Luis Castro, Cooper Galivan, Alexa Garcia, Melannie Gomez, Rose Isumbona, Lupita Martinez, Kaitlyn Leber, Maya McDowell, Binti Ndume, Alexa Nelson, Joshua Prombo, Andy Rivera, Breanna Tolle and Abril Vaca.

The third graders in the choir were: Anthony Bailey, Isaac Ballard, Reese Baxter, Olivia Christensen, Josaphat Cisneros, Keagan Cleek, Christina Kanealy, Christian Pavlica, Luis Sandoval and Yasmin Tapia.
