Downtown Perry glows Friday evening under the first blanket of white the city has received in over eight months.

What began as swirling flakes in the early afternoon quickly turned into few inches of snow by early evening Friday, as Perry experienced the first official accumulations of winter whiteness.

As of 8 p.m. no official report had been made of the amount of snow received in the city, but surrounding areas had reported between two and four inches at that point. City crews will begin plowing at 2 a.m.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Dallas County until 6 a.m. Saturday, with some additional accumulations expected through the night and early morning hours. High winds have made highway travel treacherous, with numerous reports being received of vehicles sliding off the roadways.
