Sunday was a Team Unity day for the Perry softball squad, and head coach Tina Kenney had a surprise for her Jayettes — a miniature parade.
Perry, 23-12 and ranked 15th overall, will host three-time defending state champions DC-G (17-20) in the Class 4A Region 7 Final at the PAC Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the state tournament, which Perry has not been a part of since 1999.
Team members and coaches gathered at PHS late Sunday afternoon, decorating four vehicles with streamers, signs and balloons, all designed to encourage a large and partisan crowd Tuesday. The caravan traveled from the school to Summer Meadows Court and then to the home of Alyssa Kruger on 16th Street, where appetizers were served. From there the team traversed Willis Ave. to Pattee Park and then to the home of Brooke Huntington for dinner before ending the evening with dessert at Kenney’s home.
Making a new page in the school history books will require the Jayettes to play their best game of the season, and the girls are hoping a large and boisterous crowd will offset what is sure to be a numerous DC-G following and help lead Perry to victory. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
If you like they way ThePerryNews.com covers Perry sports — with all the little ‘extras’ like this story you won’t find elsewhere — why not join the team and becomeĀ a $5-per-month sponsor? One time donations are also most welcome.
I caught the parade coming out of McDonald’s. Will be there Tuesday. Go, Jayettes!
