The Perry school system is blessed with over 200 students currently involved in instrumental music from grades 6-12, and those talents were on display Monday at the Perry Performing Arts Center.

The large and appreciative crowd on hand for the annual Winter Concert were treated to a wide variety of numbers from the Sixth/Seventh Grade Concert Band, the Eighth Grade Concert Band and the High School Symphonic Band.

Perry Middle School instrumental music instructor Lisa Christensen led the 6-7 band in renditions of “The Sound and the Fury” and “Manhattan Beach March” before leading the grade 8 band in “Our Director March” and “Sakura.”

Perry High School instrumental music instructor Brandon Weeks then guided the high school band through highlights from “The Music Man’ and an arrangement of “Silent Night” while adding “Wonderful Christmastime” from Paul McCartney.

The concert ended with a special treat, as all the students came together on the stage for a joint performance of “Here Comes Christmas” an arrangement of four popular holiday carols to which the audience was encouraged to sing along.

The Performing Art Center will host the Perry Vocal Music Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14.

Special thanks to Max Christensen for the “close-up” photos in the slideshow appearing below the video selections.
