A 16-year drought ended two pitches later when No. 15 Perry shut out three-time defending state champion DC-G to earn a spot in the state tournament.

Perry’s 3-0 win over DC-G Tuesday (story forthcoming) sends the Jayettes to the state tournament for the first time since 1999.

Perry is 24-12 overall and ranked 15th. They defeated Greene County, No. 7 Norwalk and defending three-time state champion powerhouse DC-G to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. The loss ends a run of five consecutive appearances at the state tourney for the Fillies.

No. 6 Oskaloosa (27-7) awaits the Jayettes. They will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Mittera Field at Harlan Rodgers Park in Fort Dodge following the 5:30 p.m. game between No. 9 Fairfield and No. 14 Creston, who stunned Winterset, 3-1, Saturday, en route to the tourney.

The 1:30 p.m. game pits No. 1 Carlisle against unranked Charles City, with No. 12 Boone to battle No. 13 Heelan Catholic — who topped No. 3 ADM, 2-0, in Adel Tuesday — in the 3:30 p.m. contest.

A win would move Perry into a 1 p.m. semifinal July 21 at Mittera Field. The third-place game is at 11:30 a.m. July 22 on Mittera Field — the 4A championship will be decided at 12:27 p.m. July 22 on Buena Vista University Field.

A quarterfinal loss would create games at noon and then again at 4 p.m. July 20. The consolation semi would be on Veteran’s Field; the fifth place game is on Dodger Field and the seventh place game on Veteran’s Field.
