WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger boys hoopsters capped a superb regular season Thursday with an 85-56 non-conference win over visiting Collins-Maxwell.

The win moved W-G to 19-2 overall. They will play the winner of Monday’s Class 2A District 12 game between Pleasantville and Interstate-35 in the 6:30 p.m. at Van Meter Thursday. Van Meter plays the Colfax-Mingo vs. Woodward Academy winner at 8 p.m., with the two Feb. 20 victors meeting, at DC-G, at 7 p.m. Feb. 25. The Substate 6 Final will be played Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. at a site yet to be determined.

The Hawks scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters to lead, 21-12, after one frame and 42-28 at the half. A 25-15 bulge in the third period moved the score to 67-43 and erased any thoughts of an upset by the Spartans (7-14).

Five W-G players reached double-digits in scoring, with Bryce Achenbach’s game-high 24 points leading the way. Keith Braunschweig provided 14 points, Kaya Bowlsby 11 and both Alex Bice and Nick Buch 10 points to fuel the attack.

Reese Jamison had five points, Trevor Simmons four, Jack Greel three and Matt Hansen and Walker Deputy two apiece to cap the W-G scoring. Bice hit two 3-pointers and Achenbach and Jamison one each.

Braunschweig recorded seven rebounds, five assists, six steals and one blocked shot, with Achenbach have six assists and four steals. Buck aided the cause with seven boards and Jamison five, with Bowlsby adding four thefts to the team total of 20.

Ben Hofer had 16 points for the Spartans. Jace Huntrods tallied 13 points and Mason Markley 10, with seven points from both Weston Kahler and Kadin Bennett and three from Luke Huntrods accounting for the visitor total.
