WOODWARD — Panorama broke boys basketball hearts at Woodward-Granger last year with an unexpected postseason win to end the Hawk campaign at 16-5.

The Panthers were 59-57 winners Dec. 6 to give the Hawks their only loss this season, but on Monday W-G flipped the script, recording a 54-49 win in WCAC action.

The win lifted W-G to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in league play while Panorama fell to 6-5, 5-3.

W-G held a 17-14 lead after one quarter and were in front, 29-26, at the break. The three-point margin remained eight minutes later, as the fourth period started with the hosts holding a 37-34 advantage.

W-G sank only 2-of-13 3-pointers, with Panorama hitting 9-of-25. The Panthers were 14-of-18 at the foul line while their hosts were 8-of-13.

Bryce Achenbach led W-G with 15 points, with Pacey Moats adding 13 points and Keith Braunschweig 11. Six points form Kaya Bowlsby, five from Alex Bice and two each from Nick Buch and Jack Grell capped the W-G scoring.

Moats had six assists and three steals, with Bowlsby adding five boards and four assists while both Achenbach and Reese Jamison finished with five caroms apiece.

Malachi Peasley led Panorama with 16 points. He was 8-of-8 at the foul stripe and joined Zach Rizzuti — who also had 16 points — in hitting three treys apiece.

Kolby Shackelford provided six points, Michael Allen five and Dominic Walker and Lucas Leiferman three apiece. Allen had five rebound and Rizzuti three assists.

W-G hosts Coon Rapids-Bayard tonight and Van Meter Friday, with Panorama entertaining Des Moines Christian Friday.
