VAN METER — Woodward-Granger fell to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in boys WCAC play after suffering a 64-31 loss to Van Meter Friday, with the win lifting the Bulldogs to 4-0 both overall and in conference play.

The Hawks found themselves in an 18-10 hole after eight minutes of play and trailed, 31-18, at the half. The Bulldogs used advantages on the scoreboard of 14-8 in the third stanza and of 19-5 in the fourth to blow open the contest and seal the win.

Despite a decided height advantage, the Bulldogs finished with only a 29-24 rebounding edge. The chief difference came from the Van Meter defense, which prevented few uncontested shots.

As a result, W-G hit only 8-of-37 from the floor, including 2-of-8 on 3-point attempts. Van Meter, in contrast, landed 24-of-36 inside the arch, and despite a poor 3-of-16 outing on 3-pointers still managed a 25-of-52 overall clip.

Blake Fryar led the hosts with 21 points, with 6-9 Ryan Schmitt scoring 15 points while Jack Trudo had 11.

Keith Braunschweig had 13 points to lead W-G, with Noah Hoyt adding eight points, Kaya Bowlsby seven, J.P. Nixon two and Reese Jamison one. Bowlsby and Jamison each had five rebounds, with Bryce Achenbach making four assists.

W-G will host Ogden Tuesday before visiting Madrid Friday.
