W-G cross country competes at Colfax-Mingo

COLFAX — The Woodward-Granger harriers were in action Thursday at Quarry Springs Park in the Colfax-Mingo Invitational.

Colfax-Mingo won the girls side with 32 points, with Newton second at 42 and Baxter third at 67. W-G totaled 109 points to place fourth in an eight-team field.

North Mahaska (44), Newton (58), and Colfax-Mingo (100) were the top three boys team finishers, with W-G (240) ninth among 12 teams.

Libby Grell led the W-G girls by crossing 16th in 24 minutes, 1 second, with Chloe Houge 19th in 24:45. Kenzie Dresback (21st, 25:22), Sydney Grell (26th, 25:53), and Katie Grell (27th, 26:10) completed the scoring quintet.

Maddy Mann (34th, 27:13) and Kaitlyn Smith (37th, 27:48) also ran for the varsity, with Elena Bortot (28:06) and Marissa Trees (36:37) making the rounds as well.

The top two Hawk boys to finish were Healey Hill (29th, 20:36) and Dillon Limoges (33rd, 20:55). Aiden Topalovich was 58th in 23:03 and Tjaden Smeltzer 59th in 23:07, with Dylan Bird capping the five scorers by placing 61st in 23:28.

Grant Polito (65th, 23:45) and Sterling Parkinson (69th, 24:06) also competed for the varsity. Also in action were Joel Harney (25:25), Lucas Hansen (27:12), and Sidney Trees (30:40).

A two-mile middle school race for boys and for girls was held, but scoring issues prevented the releasing of official results.
