W-G cross country competes in Perry

Woodward-Granger sent their full roster to Tuesday’s Leon Fox Invite at the Perry Golf and Country Club, taking advantage of what had been an open date on their schedule.

The Hawk boys participated in varsity, junior varsity and middle school races, with the girls squad running in both the varsity and a middle school events.

Bondurant-Farrar won the boys varsity race with 43 points, with Newton second at 63 and Ballard third at 87 while W-G finished eighth of 10 at 211.

The top three individual spots were decided by four seconds, with Jackson Mace-Maynard of Newton, Wynn Yeager of Winterset and Treycan Garton of Newton crossing in 17 minutes and 52, 54 and 56 seconds, respectively.

Dylan Steele finished 20th in exactly 19 minutes to pace W-G, with Alex Bice 44th in 19:52 and Carsten Wright 46th in 20 minutes. Caleb Jones (49th, 20:21) and Jack Grell (52nd, 20:23) also scored for the Hawks, with Xavier Ibarra (53rd (20:24) and Kaya Bowlsby (63rd, 21:05) in the varsity race as well.

Ballard dominated the girls varsity event with 20 points. Winterset and Creston were 2-3, in 82 and 95, respectively, with W-G ninth of 10 on 277 points.

Ballard’s Shawaye Johnson and Paityn Noe were 1-2, in 19:12 and 20:06, with Creston’s Braelyn Baker third in 20:31.

Natalie Helbling (46th, 25:42), Katie Grell (52nd, 26:21) and Madisyn Mann (54th, 26:37) led the Hawk girls. Makenzie Dresback (62nd, 28:30) and Sydney Grell (63rd, 28:53) also scored. Ava Petersen (66th, 29:07) and Marissa Trees (67th, 30:41) also ran for the varsity.

B-F won the boys JV race with 33 points, with W-G eighth of 10 at 252. Blake Lebeck of R-S was the winner in 19:04.

Nick Buch (21:18), Kurt Crouse (23:21), Healey Hill (23:24), Kainen Fuson (23:37) and Vlad Dodon (25:33) were 28-53-54-57 and 60 for W-G. Parker Griffin was 62nd in 26:05 and Joel Harney 63rd in 26:30.

ADM won the two-mile boys middle school race with 27 points, with W-G seventh of seven at 185. The win, in 12:24, went to Perry’s Oscar Bellrand.

Aiden Topalovich (31st, 15:31), Dillon Limoges (32nd, 15:43), Grant Polito (38th, 16:32), Sterling Parkinson (40th, 16:37) and Tyler Anousis (44th, 17:30) scored for W-G, with Shaefer Hanson (45th, 17:47) also in action.

ADM also won the girls MS event. The Tigers scored 55 points, with the Hawks seventh of seven at 187. Ballard’s Avelyn Vance won in 14:11.

Libby Grell (16:20), Ella Bearbower (17:45), Avery Smith (18:04), Lauren Rodgers (19:18) and Alexis Bogardus (19:23) finished 20-37-41-44 and 45th, respectively, to account for W-G’s score. Bronwyn Fridinger (47th, 25:02) also ran for the Hawks.

W-G is off until Oct. 17 when they participate in the WCAC Invitational in Panora.
